About me

Hello and Welcome!  My name is Ken, the owner and craftsmen of K.E. Miner Woodworking, L.L.C. I am a one-man shop in Michigan just 20 miles North of Grand Rapids. I make custom furniture along with various other wooden items, you'll see what I mean if you visit the "different types of stuff" in the gallery drop-down menu.
Many years ago my father introduced me to woodworking. I made the usual boot-jacks and napkin holders then worked my way up to more complicated projects, with practice and trying new things. I've been building with wood for over 30 years. You can see many pieces I've made by using the gallery drop-down menu. If you like what I've done and have a piece in mind you would like contact me through e-mail or by phone, maybe I can help bring your idea to life.

My woodworking philosophy

The items I make, whether it's a piece of furniture, a tea cabinet or a small accessory, I want it to last for a life time. I care about every piece I make and want the owner to be able to use it and enjoy it for a long, long time.
I use solid wood for the most part, although some utilitarian pieces require plywood and manufactured materials. My preference is solid wood with time honored construction like dovetail and mortise and tenon joints. The tools I use are a mix of power tools and hand tools. Everyone has to make a decision as to how much "technology" they are willing to use. Personally, my technology is limited to a table saw, band saw, power mitersaw, jointer, planer, lathe, drill press, belt/disc sanding center and scroll saw all with just ON/OFF switches, no computers to help set up or operate. No CNC machines, no duplicators, no automatic anything. I try to use hand tools as much as possible but time is an issue. Automation saves time but also makes things look like they were done with a cookie cutter with no human touch and no thought.
If you would like to send me an email at keminerwoodworking@gmail.com I'd like to hear from you. I'm curious to hear what people think about the pieces I've made. Maybe you see ways to improve a piece, I'd like to hear your ideas. Right now Tea Cabinets are quite popular. I've been building the cabinets I designed along with the variations people have been requesting. The customizing is great, it really adds depth and functionality to my original idea.
